About Rodent Guard Bend
A locally-owned rodent control team built specifically for Bend’s high-desert climate, lava-rock soil, and the species that actually live here — licensed, insured, and trained on Central Oregon conditions a national script was never built to handle.
Why We Exist
We started this company because national pest control chains were treating Bend the same way they’d treat a home in Phoenix or Seattle — same script, same materials, same generic advice about mice and rats in general. Bend is not a generic market. Deer mice, not Norway rats, dominate here. Volcanic soil and lava-rock voids make standard exclusion methods fail. Central Oregon has documented Hantavirus and plague history that most companies never mention, let alone train technicians on. We built our process around those actual conditions instead of a copy-paste national template.
Licensed, Insured, and Regulated by the State of Oregon
Pest control operators in Oregon are licensed and regulated by the Oregon Department of Agriculture (ODA) Pesticides Program, which issues Commercial Pesticide Operator licenses to businesses and Commercial Pesticide Applicator licenses to individual technicians. Both require passing state exams, maintaining required liability insurance, and completing continuing education for annual renewal.
ODA-Licensed Operator
Our business operates under a Commercial Pesticide Operator license issued by the Oregon Department of Agriculture. You can verify any Oregon pest control license through the ODA Pesticide Licensing portal.
Licensed Applicators
Technicians hold Commercial Pesticide Applicator licenses, requiring passed state exams in laws, safety, and category-specific competency, renewed annually with continuing education credits.
General Liability Insurance
We carry the liability insurance required by Oregon law for licensed pesticide operators, protecting your property throughout every inspection and treatment.
Integrated Pest Management (IPM)
We follow IPM principles — inspection and exclusion first, targeted treatment second — an approach encouraged statewide and supported by Oregon State University’s Extension Service.
Our Specialties
Lava-Rock Exclusion Expertise
We specifically check for volcanic soil voids and lava-rock cavities beneath foundations — entry routes most companies never learn to look for.
Correct Species Identification
We distinguish deer mice from house mice, and pack rats from Norway rats, because it changes both the health-risk profile and the right exclusion approach.
Hantavirus & Plague-Safe Protocol
Cleanup follows EPA and CDC-aligned decontamination methods, informed by Central Oregon’s documented case history.
STR & Second-Home Workflows
Pre-arrival inspections scheduled around guest check-in windows, with written reports for property managers and HOA files.
Where Our Health Information Comes From
We don’t guess at health claims. Our Hantavirus and disease information is grounded in guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Oregon Health Authority, and we cite real Deschutes County case history rather than generic fear-based marketing.
